New Zealand implements Google Android Emergency location throughout the whole country

EENA announced that the new emergency 111 location system in New Zealand now displays exactly the location of the caller. New Zealand is also the 1st country outside Europe that is using the new system on a nationwide bases. "If the caller doesn't know their address or exact whereabouts, the new system will automatically provide emergency services with a more precise location of a 111 caller than is currently the case," said Police Minister Paula Bennett.

Last year about 80% of the emergency calls were made from mobile phones. Additionally over 1800 incidents were recorded where police had to make special information requests to a number of cellular providers to identify the location of the caller.
